Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering Trainees will learn foundation skills in how to keep Victorian and replica rolling stock in working condition, including locomotive repairs and rebuilds.

Mechanical Engineering trainees will be expected to gain a minimum of a City & Guilds Level 2 certificate in Mechanical Engineering Operations in the Heritage Context. Trainees will be based in the engineering department in Boston Lodge with a one day a week day release to Coleg Meirion Dwyfor, Dolgellau.

Units include:

  • Health & Safety in an engineering environment
  • Understanding and Communicating technical information
  • Understanding working effectively in an industrial environment
  • Understanding working relationships in an industrial environment
  • Understanding rights and responsibilities in an industrial environment
  • Preparing and Using lathes for turning operations
  • Preparing and using milling machines
